The Service
Bed cleanup means getting on your knees and pulling weeds out by the root, clearing accumulated leaf litter and dead growth, and cutting a clean defined edge back into the bed line. It is unglamorous and there is no machine that does it properly.
We do it by hand deliberately. Weeds snapped off at the surface are back in three weeks, and a string trimmer run along a bed edge tears a ragged line rather than cutting a crisp one. A bed that has been done properly stays looking done for months rather than days.

Some will — that is gardening, not a failure. But weeds pulled with the root take far longer to return than weeds snapped off at soil level, and a bed that gets mulched after cleanup suppresses a great deal of new germination. Most properties want this once or twice a season rather than monthly.
No. This is hand-weeding. We are deliberately cautious about chemical application — herbicide use carries licensing considerations in Connecticut and we would rather do the honest physical work than make claims about products we are not certified to apply.
It is the natural pairing. Cleaning a bed and then mulching it locks in the result: mulch suppresses new weed seed, holds moisture, and makes the crisp new edge read even sharper. We do both, and doing them in one visit costs less than two separate trips.
It depends entirely on how long it has been. A maintained bed that needs tidying is quick. A bed that has not been touched in two years is a genuine day of work. We quote it after seeing it, never over the phone.
